Love Yo’ Self Written by Ferrah Seifert  wwww.ferrahchino.com @Ferrahchinoyoga  “Because one believes in oneself, one doesn’t try to convince others. Because one is content with oneself, one doesn’t need others’ approval. Because one accepts oneself, the whole world accepts him or her.” – Lao Tzu To be honest, self-acceptance doesn’t always come easy for me. I grew up in an 80% white school, where I was not the typical blonde that received a ton of attention. Since this was pre J-Lo and Kim K, I constantly questioned my appeal as a woman with darker features. I can recall entering Jr. High with five horribly expensive Hollister and Abercrombie & Fitch shirts that I would wear on each day of the week. I was constantly seeking approval from outside sources hoping that…

Chakra 101: Sahaswara, The Crown Chakra

By Silvia Mordini, Featured on Yoganonymous.com About Crown Chakra: “In physics, a singularity is a point of infinite density and infinitesimal volume. Singularities exist at the center of black holes, which are regions of space that have a gravitational field so intense that no matter or radiation can escape. Likewise, the pull of your purpose combined with your core priorities is so intense, so massive; that nothing you do can escape its influence. Every thought you have, every decision you make, and every action you take is pulled by this force.” – Isaiah Hankel from Black Hole Focus The seventh chakra is depicted as a fully blooming, thousand-petaled lotus flower at the crown of your head. The roots of this lotus flower are connected to the Earth and its petals stem out from the…

Water Ritual: A Healing Practice

Water Ritual: A Healing Practice By: Sarah Erter Within the Chakra System, water is associated with Svadhistana — the second chakra, housed within the pelvis. It represents our emotions, desires, raw creative energy, and sense of pleasure. Just as the ocean’s tides are pulled by the Moon, the Moon governs the water element within us. Svadhistana is experienced through the color orange, the sense of taste, and the vibrations of its seed sound, “vam.” When out of balance, second chakra blockages manifest through mental + physical stiffness (particularly within the hips + low back), guilt or shame, health issues impacting the reproductive system, or a restricted sense of being able to fully feel, express, or release emotions, or enjoy life’s pleasures. In yoga philosophy, water rituals correspond to the practice…

Creating a More Peaceful World Through Yoga

By: Sarah Erter In a yoga practice as we move + breathe, the overall energy and vibration is heightened within us and around us as we synch with the universal rhythm. As we stretch beyond the four corners or our mat and move through the day, the vibrations we emit continue to ripple throughout our surroundings. It is rhythm entrainment, or sympathetic vibration. Anodea Judith explains in “Wheels of Light” that two waves with similar frequencies — or even one wave that is close enough to a dormant source can be set into motion — and will eventually move into phase with one another, increasing the expansiveness + depth of the wave. In relating physics to our inner-workings, there is potential for us as yogis to cultivate a more peaceful and…

Alchemy of Stability: Earth Energy of Root Chakra The Root Chakra is also known as the Earth Chakra. Truth is, we all benefit from having more of an Earth personality. Characteristics include stability, reliability, and thoughtfulness. An earth person has a reputation for being nurturing and grounded. People we value as dear friends are often those that are self-accepting, peaceful and supportive. They are comfortable with who they are. We can achieve this by investing time into stabilizing our Root Chakra. When we’re at home with ourselves, we’re less likely to worry. When we are grounded, our roots go deeper, providing us more physical and emotional stability. Like a plant, the deeper the root base, the bigger the bloom above ground. The stronger we are in our foundation, the more…
